Do Something Nice For Others This Month

Perfect HeartCan you believe September is here already? I was browsing the aisles of my local Walgreens yesterday and was shocked by the wall full of Halloween ghosts and goblins.

Doesn’t life just move too fast at times?

Maybe it’s the anticipation of the Fall (my favorite season), but each time September rolls around I begin to feel all warm, fuzzy and cozy inside. And that tends to make me overly giving and sentimental.

I have a special gift to share with you below.

But first, the sentimental part 🙂

Here are 3 things I remind myself to do every September

-Enjoy every moment (or enjoy the journey)

Whether you are keeping busy and gaining tons of new clients OR you are struggling to decide what to do next, appreciate the good and the bad.

Life is short. There are ups and downs every step of the way.

One thing my father told me at an early age when things weren’t going my way was simply: This too shall pass.

It helps put things in perspective. Do your best to enjoy – and appreciate – life at every turn.

-Love the ones around you

It’s a rare day that goes by that I don’t need to count on the help, assistance and love of others.

Take a moment to express the gratitude to the people who mean the most in your life.

Whether it’s an email, a hand-written note or a face-to-face dialogue, say Thank You often.

Remember, we are all in the same boat. All just trying to do our best with the hand we were dealt.

Respect, admire and appreciate others.

-Be kind to yourself

This is perhaps one of the most recent concepts I was able to grasp. Maybe it’s from maturing a bit, finding the perfect woman to marry, or something entirely different.

Regardless, being fair, honest and true to yourself first allows you to be open and available to others.

Try not to beat yourself up. Do your best, learn from your mistakes and treat yourself well.

Now for the special gift part

  1. Hi Josh, I would love the opportunity to be in the running for this. I am struggling with hiring the right people. Also struggling with how to best manage them. I'd love your help. I currently have five part time assistants. Thanks so much. ~ Dawn

  2. I like your positive philosophy, Josh.

I could use some help building my blog readership. I've been blogging for the past year and post an article about twice a month on topics intended to help pet owners. I'm cross posting to twitter and FB, and use my blog url in my signature line so that clients and colleagues will be reminded, but I don't know how to take it further than that.

  3. I'll be honest Josh. I'm stuck. I need to hire desperately, but I don't even know where to begin. How do I introduce them to clients? How do I transition some of my clients to them? How do I do this without losing my clients. How do I ensure consistency within my business if I hire an IC? Augh! Help!

  4. You are now in the running, Dawn. As you know, hiring and working with the right pet sitters is a passion of mine. Something I speak about all the time.

Alitia and I depend on ICs to keep our business growing and moving in the right direction.

    More to follow…

  5. Hi Vicki, Thanks for the feedback on my philosophy.

As you know, I could talk for hours on the topic of blogging. There are many many tools, tips, and techniques you should be using to grow your blog readership.

Thanks for raising this topic and I'll expand further soon…

  6. Hi there Mel,

Hiring can surely be daunting task. I've hired many pet sitters over the years and would be thrilled to share with you what works and HOW to make it work.

You've asked some great questions. I'll be back in touch in a bit.

  7. Hi, there! My husband Ray and I started our pet sitting business a few months ago and are really struggling with how to get the phones to ring. We have our website Just a “Pet” Away and have done some local advertising in ads and at vets and groomers as well as where ever there is a community bulletin board. We get sits about every couple of weeks or so, but it is slow in between. Can you suggest another way for us to market?

  8. Great idea! Do something nice for someone! Good for the soul.

I'd like to get an IC but I'm having problems getting over that hump. I almost had someone but they backed out. I still have the fear of letting go.

  9. Josh,I try to do this everyday whether it is for a family member, stranger, client or a sales clerk that I have gotten to know.I recently bought the sales clerk that always helps me at Office Max breakfast..he was shocked and everyone was jealous. I recently cleaned my clients home while doing a live in. I could of left it the way they left it but decided that I hate coming home to a mess I think I will clean..they thought I hired a company to come and clean their home..I bought a kitty tunnel for one of my client’s when the kitty wore out his make shift kitty house as they put it..it was a cardboard box for water bottles that he decided to sleep in..they bought him kitty houses before but he refused to go in them..but he loved the tunnel..The house I am in right now..I am rewashing their laundry that they left in the washing machine and folded the clothes in the dryer and put them in their son’s room and washed the dishes left in the sink.

  10. Hey Josh!

I’d like to get some in-depth info on writing press releases that get noticed by editors. I’ve sent a lot out in the past and only got one “bite”. It was a pretty lucrative bite, because it was in a small community paper in the middle of my service area, but I’d like to hit a wider audience.

    1. Well noted, Tiffany! I will make sure to cover this AND see if I can get a real good pro PR person to speak specifically on this topic.

      Thanks for submitting…

  11. Thank you everyone for submitting your comments!

I will be contacting the 3 winners personally via email and will post a follow up here when all is set.

If you don’t receive the complimentary coaching session, there will be plenty of more opportunity down the road.

Thanks for being a part of PetSittingOlogy and keep your questions coming in.
