Pet Sitters Who Blog are More Successful than Pet Sitters Who Do Not Blog – Here’s Why.

Adding a blog to your pet sitting website will put you ahead of the competition – and it’s easier than you think.

How in the world does blogging help a pet sitter get more clients?

And how does blogging help with SEO (search engine optimization)?

These are just two great questions I was asked recently in a Facebook group.

Let me begin, first, with what I mean when I say “Pet Sitters who blog are more successful than pet sitters who do not blog.”

Today – sure – there may be some very successful pet sitters who have never blogged a day in their lives. And those are the exceptions to the rule.

The business world around us in changing – and it’s changing very quickly.

In the coming months and years, the way potential clients search for – and the way Google places sites in their search results – will change drastically.

Your potential clients will be viewing your website not only through their desktop computers, but more and more will be accessing it through their smart phones, ipad tablets and other applications.

Social media use will continue to play an even greater role than it does today, and your ability to keep up with what puts you ahead of your competition is important.

The Big Four Letter Word: Blog!

Blogging is, and will continue to play, an important role in your marketing efforts.

If the word ‘blog’ frightens you, it’s nothing more than adding valuable content to your website.

When you add a blog to your pet sitting website, you achieve two key things:

1 – You quickly establish yourself as expert in your industry, and that will help you gain more clients because every pet owner wants to hire the most qualified, trustworthy and knowledgeable pet sitter.

2 – You make Google happy by adding a flow of valuable, original content for your visitors (and that’s a win for you, a win for your visitor, and a win for Google).

Adding a blog to your current website could not be a simpler process, especially if you are already set up with a WordPress powered website.

Side Note: My PetSittingOlogy WordPress-Powered Pet Sitting Website does all the leg work for you.

Here’s the deal:

Blogging is simply creating great, valuable content to your website – in the form of articles – that your potential clients will love to read.

On the other hand, since Google’s number one job is to provide the search user with the most relevant, high quality website with original content, a pet sitter who blogs will always have the advantage over those that do not.

Why is blogging on your pet sitting website so important?

-It allows you to continually add new content to your site. And Google loves that. Google prefers websites that are being updates on a regular basis and one that gives a potential visitor a ton of information that they might be looking for.

Take this example: Say I’m a pet owner in Cleveland, Ohio and I’m looking for a pet sitter to hire.

I type into Google ‘Cleveland pet sitter’ and now Google has the job to place the most relevant links high on that first page.

Is Google more likely to show me a website that has about 5 standard pages, each with about 2 paragraphs of content, with no pictures, and hasn’t been updated in any way in months?

(And, yes, Google can identify all of those issues on your website! That’s its job. Scary, I know.)

Or will Google make the easy, obvious choice and display a pet sitter’s website link high in the results that has a few dozen pages, includes some video, has a blog with articles that updates a few times a month?

Obviously, the second website example is a much better choice.

Google can confidently tell that pet sitter #2 in the example above is an expert in their field (writing about a variety of topics beneficial to pet owners) and is serious about their business (displayed by adding content on a regular basis).

The Bottom Line Truth

A typical search user wants plenty of answers to questions they have about hiring a pet sitter. Simply having a handful of the usual pages on your website will not cut it anymore.

Take your pet sitting business to the next level and begin adding more and more valuable content to your website.

It is much easier than you think.

  1. It’s a great way to show you know what you’re talking about, when you first meet a potential client as well share some knowledge, find out about any problems they have with their dog and give advice, such as try this food etc A lot of people don’t realise how many specialist dog food and supplements varieties there are but there’s something for almost any condition.

    1. Hi Dave, Thanks for your comment. While I chose to approve this comment, I also chose to remove your direct link to your dog food site which was disguised in some of your ‘keywords’ within your comment. I’m sure you understand.

  2. Nice post. I will try to login to your webinar. However, setting up a blog account is no more a complex process today. WordPress community made it simple, provided that we have a basic HTML knowledge.

  3. As a pet sitter I have never contemplated blogging, but you may have just convinced me to start. I often chat with the pet owners about how the sitting went, and tell them of anything that happened while I was looking after their pet, so why not go ahead and write it in a blog and share it with the whole world!
